Two Men. One Decision.
In the spring of 1986, two young men stood in the same parking lot after work.
Both were tired.
Both came from ordinary families.
Neither had money.
Neither had special connections.
Neither had any guarantee their future would look different from their present.
They talked often about their dreams.
The business they wanted to start.
The places they wanted to see.
The lives they hoped to build.
The men they hoped to become.
At first, their stories sounded almost identical.
One evening, as the sun disappeared behind the horizon, one of them said something simple:
“I think I’m going to do it.”
“Do what?” his friend asked.
“Try.”
“Try what?”
“The business. The dream. The thing I’ve been talking about for years.”
His friend laughed.
“With what money?”
“With what experience?”
“What if you fail?”
The first man shrugged.
“I might. But why not me?”
Years passed.
The first man stumbled.
Made mistakes.
Lost money.
Started over.
Failed more than once.
But he kept moving.
Kept learning.
Kept growing.
Kept asking the same question.
Why not me?
The second man stayed where he was.
Not because he was less intelligent.
Not because he lacked talent.
Not because he lacked opportunity.
He simply waited.
Waited for certainty.
Waited for confidence.
Waited for the perfect moment.
Waited until he felt ready.
The years became decades.
One man built a future.
The other built excuses.
And perhaps the most sobering truth of all is this:
Both men were capable of becoming the first man.
Only one believed it.
That is how most lives are shaped.
Not by talent.
Not by luck.
Not by background.
But by the questions we ask ourselves.
Some people spend their lives asking:
“Why me?”
Others eventually learn to ask:
“Why not me?”
And then they ask the question that destroys delay:
“Why not now?”
The Voices That Never Built Anything
Everyone thought it was impossible.
Nobody laughed when it was done.
They laughed before.
When all you had was an idea.
Before the results.
Before the proof.
Before the wins.
Before the transformation.
Back when the vision existed only in your mind and in your prayers.
That is when the criticism comes.
Not after success.
Before it.
Because dreams make people uncomfortable.
Especially people who abandoned their own.
The moment you decide to pursue something bigger, something strange happens.
People begin handing you their fears.
They call them opinions.
But most of the time, they are fears.
“Be realistic.”
“Don’t get your hopes up.”
“That probably won’t work.”
“People like us don’t do things like that.”
“Maybe you’re aiming too high.”
Listen carefully.
Many of the people warning you about your limits have spent years surrendering to theirs.
They are not speaking from vision.
They are speaking from disappointment.
Not from faith.
From fear.
Not from experience.
From assumption.
And if you are not careful, you will spend your life accepting advice from people who have never gone where you are trying to go.
One of the saddest realities in life is that some people stop chasing their dreams.
Then spend the rest of their lives explaining why you should stop chasing yours.
The crowd has always mocked what it could not yet understand.
Noah looked ridiculous until it rained.
David looked foolish until Goliath fell.
The disciples looked crazy until the world changed.
Faith has never looked logical in the beginning.
That is why it requires faith.
The truth is that most people who change their lives go through the same sequence.
First they look foolish.
Then they look obsessed.
Then they look different.
Then they look successful.
Then everyone calls them lucky.
But what people call luck is often years of obedience nobody witnessed.
Years of discipline nobody applauded.
Years of faith nobody understood.
The crowd sees what is.
God sees what can be.
The crowd sees your current condition.
God sees your future potential.
The crowd sees your history.
God sees your calling.
The crowd sees limitations.
God sees possibilities.
Which raises a difficult question.
How much of your future have you already surrendered because someone else could not see it?
How many opportunities have you talked yourself out of?
How many dreams have you buried?
How many doors have you refused to walk through?
Not because God closed them.
Because somebody else’s fear convinced you they were locked.
Read that again.
Not because God closed them.

If God has placed a vision inside your heart, there will be moments when nobody understands.
Moments when the numbers do not make sense.
Moments when the outcome is not visible.
Moments when all you have is conviction.
Those moments separate spectators from builders.
Drifters from Operators.
People who merely exist from people who become.
So let me ask you one question:
What are you pursuing right now that other people do not understand?
And whose voice carries more weight?
The crowd’s?
Or God’s?
Because one day the people who doubted you will not matter.
But the life you failed to build because you listened to them will.
The Lie That Steals Futures
There comes a moment in every person’s life when they stand at a crossroads.
One path is familiar.
Safe.
Predictable.
The other path is uncertain.
It requires faith.
Courage.
Risk.
Growth.
Most people spend their entire lives standing at that intersection, waiting for certainty.
Waiting for permission.
Waiting for someone to tell them they are capable.
Waiting for the perfect moment.
And while they wait, life quietly moves on.
Years pass.
Opportunities come and go.
Dreams grow smaller.
Potential goes unused.
Not because they lacked ability.
Not because God forgot about them.
Because they never believed the future they admired could belong to them.
They watched other people build businesses.

Other people answer God’s calling.

And somewhere along the way, they accepted a dangerous lie:
“Maybe those things are for them, but not for me.”
That lie has stolen more futures than failure ever has.
Self-Disqualification Comes Before Defeat
The enemy rarely destroys people through catastrophe.
Most often, he destroys them through comparison.
He convinces them that extraordinary lives belong to extraordinary people.
Not ordinary people.
Not people from your neighborhood.
Not people with your background.
Not people your age.
Not people who made your mistakes.
Not people who have failed before.
So before life ever says no, they say no to themselves.
They disqualify themselves before they ever step into the arena.
The battle is lost before it begins.
The dream dies before it takes its first breath.
And the tragedy is that most people never realize what happened.
The Silent Graveyard
One of the saddest places on earth is not a cemetery.
It is the graveyard of unrealized potential.
Businesses never started.
Books never written.
Conversations never had.
Prayers never prayed.
Adventures never taken.
Callings never answered.
Lives never fully lived.
Not because people lacked intelligence.
Not because they lacked talent.
Not because God withheld opportunity.
Because they quietly convinced themselves someone else was chosen.
Someone else was capable.
Someone else was qualified.
Someone else was called.
Meanwhile, the gifts God placed inside them remained buried.
The world never received what they had to offer.
The Future Self Waiting for You
One day you will meet the person you could have become.
Not physically.
But through reflection.
You will look back on your life and see two versions of yourself.
The one who answered the call.
And the one who stayed comfortable.
The one who moved forward.
And the one who remained afraid.
The one who trusted God.
And the one who waited forever for certainty.
The one who developed the gifts he was given.
And the one who buried them.
The question is not whether that future version exists.
The question is which version you are building today.
Every decision casts a vote.
Every habit casts a vote.
Every act of courage casts a vote.
Every excuse casts a vote.
Every day you are becoming someone.
The question is:
Who?
The Enemy’s Favorite Weapon
Most people think the enemy’s greatest weapon is failure.
It is not.
Failure often creates stronger people.
Failure teaches.
Failure humbles.
Failure refines.
The enemy’s favorite weapon is delay.
Tomorrow.
Next month.
Next year.
Someday.
Because delayed potential feels harmless.
Until decades disappear.
The enemy rarely says:
“Give up.”
That would be too obvious.
Instead he whispers:
“Not today.”
“Wait until conditions improve.”
“Wait until you have more money.”
“Wait until you are more confident.”
“Wait until you are ready.”
And while you are waiting...
Life moves.
Time moves.
Opportunities move.
The future quietly becomes the past.
God Did Not Create You Merely to Exist
This is where many people misunderstand purpose.
Purpose is not merely about chasing dreams.
Purpose is about stewarding gifts.
God did not place talents, passions, experiences, strengths, and opportunities inside you so they could remain dormant.
He entrusted them to you.
The question is not simply:
“What do I want from life?”
The deeper question is:
“What has God entrusted to me that I am refusing to develop?”
Scripture repeatedly shows God using imperfect people.
Moses doubted.
Gideon doubted.
Jeremiah doubted.
Peter doubted.
Yet God used them anyway.
Why?
Because willingness matters more than confidence.
As Scripture reminds us:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
— Philippians 4:13
Notice what Paul did not say.
He did not say:
“I can do all things through talent.”
Or resources.
Or connections.
Or confidence.
He said Christ.
Because God’s strength has always been greater than human limitation.
The Mirror
Pause for a moment.
What future have you quietly convinced yourself belongs to someone else?
What dream keeps returning to your mind?
What opportunity keeps knocking?
What calling refuses to leave you alone?
What gift have you buried because fear seemed more reasonable than faith?
And if God opened the door tomorrow...
Would you walk through it?
Or would you find another reason to wait?
Operator Doctrine
Most people spend their lives asking:
“Why me?”
Operators eventually learn to ask:
“Why not me?”
Then they stop hiding behind someday and ask:
“Why not now?”
Why not become stronger?
Why not build the business?
Why not write the book?
Why not improve the marriage?
Why not answer the call?
Why not become the father, mother, husband, wife, leader, creator, servant, or Operator God designed you to become?
The future is not reserved for the most gifted.
It belongs to those willing to move toward it.
Faithfully.
Consistently.
Courageously.
Every day is a mission.
The Tragedy of Waiting Too Long
Imagine standing before God one day.
And seeing the life He prepared for you.
The people you could have helped.
The lives you could have changed.
The courage you could have shown.
The impact you could have made.
The joy you could have experienced.
The legacy you could have left.
Not because you lacked ability.
Not because you lacked opportunity.
Not because you lacked resources.
Because you never believed it was possible.
Because you spent your life asking:
“Why me?”
Instead of:
“Why not me?”
Because you kept saying:
“Maybe later.”

Someone who carries the load.
Someone who moves under pressure.
Someone who rejects comfort when purpose requires action.
Someone who chooses growth when excuses would be easier.
Someone who understands that God did not create them merely to consume life.
He created them to build one.
Every article we write.

Every conversation we have.
Every challenge we issue.
Points back to the same belief:
You are capable of more than you think.
Your future is not finished.
Your story is not over.
And if God has placed a vision inside your heart, the question is not:
“Who am I?”
The better question is:
“Why not me?”

“Why not now?”
Every day is a mission.

The Questions That Changes Everything
Somewhere tonight, two people are having the same conversation.
Both have dreams.

Twenty years from now, their lives may look completely different.
Not because one was chosen.

One day your story will end.
The question is not whether you will die.

The future belongs to those who move.

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gifts, opportunities, and purpose You have placed within me.
Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear, comparison, doubt, delay, or the opinions of others to keep me from becoming who You created me to be.
Give me the courage to move forward even when I cannot see the entire path.
Help me trust You more than my fears.
Strengthen me to steward my gifts faithfully, serve others boldly, and walk through every door You open.
May I never settle for comfort when You are calling me toward purpose.
And when doubt tries to convince me that I am unworthy, remind me that You do not call the qualified.
You qualify the called.
